It’s been a while since my last update. Unfortunately I haven’t had as much time to spend on developing Biomass in recently months as I had hoped. Progress continues, just more slowly. I’ll post more when there’s something more noteworthy to post about.

I must apologize for the lack of updates in the past couple of months. I’ve been out for most of the holidays. However, with those over I’ll soon be working on Biomass again.
To anyone who has left feedback, sorry about the delay. I’ll be emailing responses shortly.

I finally got around to writing up the tutorial on my Blender model creation process. It covers my techniques from start to finish on how I’ve been creating the ship models for Biomass.

It’s been over a month, so I thought I’d better give a progress update. The ship flight physics and mechanics are mostly in place. It’s now possible to fly your ship around a sector of space. The model is something of a mixture between the classic flight model and the Freelancer mouse control. Before I create another video, however, I need to polish a few items and create a couple of new 3D models to make the space more interesting. So, keep your eyes peeled for the new video.
In other news, a good friend of mine, Sam Huston, will be helping in various areas from ship concepts, to models, to story polish and game design elements. Welcome aboard Sam!

I’ve written a journal entry on importing complex models from Blender in Torque 3D. T3D makes it a snap to import simple models. However, vehicles or other shapes requiring level of detail are a little more involved.

I've worked out the process I plan to use to create the space skyboxes for Biomass. I wrote a journal entry describing the process to both help other people trying to do something similar and to solicit feedback on the process including how it could be improved.

I’ve been primarily working on the lists of items in excel recently. However, since the Torque 3D beta is out, I’ve also been playing around with it to better understand its capabilities and how I’ll need to create the actual models going forward. As part of that testing, I’ve imported the Ship Test #2 model into Torque 3D and uploaded a short video showing it off. Check it out in the
Gallery.
